The Global Wi-Max Forum has cautioned that India would miss the Wi-Max revolution unless it allocates spectrum in the 2.5-2.69 GHz band for these services. The Department of Space has refused to vacate spectrum in this band. It is currently using the spectrum for satellite-based mobile and broadcast applications. Meanwhile, VSNL plans to launch Wi-Max services in about six months if the required spectrum becomes available.
