According to IHS, the global spending on optical network equipment including wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), synchronous optical networking and synchronous digital hierarchy grew by 5 per cent in the first quarter of 2015 and stood at $2.7 billion.
According to IHS, the global spending on optical network equipment including wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), synchronous optical networking and synchronous digital hierarchy grew by 5 per cent in the first quarter of 2015 and stood at $2.7 billion.
Further, the research firm states that there has been encouraging demand for the optical network equipment in Europe, the Middle East and Africa region. Country wise, Japan is expected to lead the spending on worldwide optical network equipment market as it prepares for a large scale 100G rollout. IHS underlines that the focus in optical networking is now shifting to the metros as new products targeted specifically at this market are being planned and scheduled for production. Going forward, data centres and service providers are expected to rapidly deploy 100G.
Interestingly, spending on optical transport equipment and technologies is growing at a faster rate among web companies as compared to service providers. Alcatel Lucent, Ciena, Cisco, Huawei and Infinera are few of the leading 100G vendors.
