According to a report by Cloudflare, global internet traffic surged by 17 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023, reflecting the growing global dependency on the internet.

The report offered insights into internet usage and security trends worldwide, highlighting key developments in areas such as popular online services, generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI), and cybersecurity threats.

The report added that Google has maintained its status as the most popular Internet service for the third consecutive year, followed by Facebook, Apple, and TikTok. Notably, WhatsApp has entered the top ten for the first time. In the realm of gen AI, OpenAI continues to be the leading service, while newcomers like Codeium, Claude, and CoPilot have made significant strides.

Further, in gaming services, Roblox has held its top position for the fourth year, with Steam breaking into the top five and Minecraft making its debut in the top ten. The report also highlighted that the gaming and gambling industry has become the most targeted sector for cyber threats, surpassing Finance, with notable spikes in attacks during events such as the Super Bowl.
