According to IHS, the worldwide broadband market witnessed a year-on-year growth of 14 per cent to reach $2.1 billion in the first quarter of 2015. However, on quarter-on-quarter basis, the broadband market registered a decline of five per cent.

The research firm states that the growth in the global broadband equipment market was driven by high demand for digital subscriber line (DSL), passive optical network (PON) and Ethernet fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment. Further, the research firm points out that in regions such as North America, operators, various utilities and municipalities in their bid to compete with cable companies are making significant investments in GPON and Ethernet FTTH equipment to offer gigabit services to users. Meanwhile, cable operators and telecom service provider in Latin America are investing in new technologies after years of underinvestment.
