
China-based Gionee is planning to invest $50 million in India over the next three years for manufacturing of its handsets. The company has partnered with global manufacturering companies, Foxconn and Dixon to begin its handset production in India.
Foxconn will by manufacturing the F Series and P Series phones from the existing Gionee portfolio. Meanwhile, Dixon will be manufacturing feature phones and other smartphones for Gionee. Both the partners are likely to start production in October 2015 and they have an aggregate production capacity of 1.2 million handsets per month.
Gionee is also planning to increase investment in its R&D team in India which will work on softwares that can provide a better consumer experience. This team will work on the Gionee user interface, called Amigo, which can be made customised for Indian consumers.
