China-based Gionee is planning to start manufacturing mobile phones in India, but is currently awaiting clarity on the ?Make in India? policy from the government. The company is planning to manufacture half of its annual production of phones in India. At present, it manufactures around 60 million handsets annually and plans to increase the production by 10-15 million units every year.

Gionee claims that it is ready with an assembly line to start manufacturing in the country. However, the final decision would be taken only after complete clarity on the policy is provided by the Indian government.

Meanwhile, the handset manufacturer has shown concern on the Delhi High Court?s decision on Xiaomi, another China-based handset manufacturer, regarding a patent violation litigation filed by Ericsson. The court has ordered a ban on the sale of Xiaomi smartphones in the country till February 2015. The Sweden-based Ericsson has also sued Gionee for infringement of patents.
