
Gemini Communications, ZTE, US-based Harris Stratex and Israeli firm Alvarion have emerged as the lowest bidders for BSNL’s contract to supply 7,000 Wi-Max base stations in the rural areas. A total of seven companies had submitted bids, including Samsung, Huawei and Motorola, of which the lowest four were to be awarded the contract. While Gemini was the lowest bidder, quoting Rs 9.83 billion, ZTE quoted Rs 10.65 billion, Harris Stratex Rs 10.94 billion and Alvarion Rs 11.01 billion.
The project involves covering 0.25 million blocks across the country where BSNL plans to set up common service centres based on Wi-Max.
