According to the research firm Gartner, the total expenditure on telecom equipment and services is expected to grow from $2.06 trillion in 2012 to $2.13 trillion in 2013. This would make telecom services the largest IT segment witnessing highest spends amongst all segments.
The telecom services growth is expected to be driven by the growth of broadband connectivity in emerging markets and the increased uptake of multiple connected devices, such as media tablets, gaming and other consumer electronics devices in mature markets.
The report also expects a three per cent growth in the global IT spending in 2012. The industry will be worth $3.6 trillion in 2012 and is expected to grow to $3.78 trillion in the year 2013. Most of this spending will be on account of strong growth in various segments like cloud computing, telecom and consulting services and research. It expects global enterprise spending on public cloud services to grow from $91 billion in 2011 to $109 billion in 2012 and further to $207 billion by 2016. As per Gartner, currently, business process as a service (BPaaS) accounts for majority of cloud spending by enterprises, however, in future, other platforms such a service (PaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) are going to grow faster.
According to Gartner, despite challenges such as the Euro Zone crisis, weak recovery in the US market and a slowdown in China?s economy the long-term outlook for the global IT spending looks stable. Gartner, further, expects demand for consulting services to remain high for global business and technology leaders due to complex business environment.
Gartner estimates computer hardware market to grow from $420 billion in 2012 to $448 billion in 2013.
