FLAG Telecom, the wholly owned subsidiary of RCOM, has awarded a $350 million contract to France-based equipment manufacturer Alcatel-Lucent to build an IP-enabled trans-Pacific undersea cable.

The cable will link Japan and the west coast of the US and will be seamlessly integrated with the other cable assets of FLAG Telecom including the existing FEA Cable (Europe, Indian subcontinent, East Asia), FLAG Atlantic (east coast of the US to Europe), FLAG North Asia Loop, FALCON (Egypt-Middle East-India) and the forthcoming cables connecting the Mediterranean, Africa and East Asian countries.
