The government expects 5G services to be rolled out in the country by October 12, 2022 and has affirmed that it will ensure that the prices are affordable for the consumers. Providing an update regarding the development in this regard, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, said that installations are being done and telecom operations are striving for seamless rollout of 5G services.
The 5G services would be rolled out in a phased manner across the country. In the first phase, 13 cities namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune are expected to get 5G internet services.
Besides, with the advent of 5G services, the industry will receive an investment of around Rs 2.5-3 trillion. Meanwhile, as per government estimates, 5G services is expected to reach to almost all parts of the country in the next 2-3 years. Further, the minister informed that based on feedback from industry, investments to the tune of Rs 500 – 600 billion have been made and most of the investments out of Rs 3 trillion will be made in the next 18-24 months.
