Hatem Dowidar, chief executive officer (CEO), e& (Etisalat) will join Vodafone Group’s board in February 2024 as a non-executive director after Vodafone said it had received the necessary regulatory approvals.
Dowidar will support the rapid transformation being undertaken by Margherita Della Valle, CEO, Vodafone Group, and the management team.
e& is Vodafone’s biggest shareholder, with a 14.6 per cent stake. Both the companies formed a strategic agreement in May 2023, which included a board seat for Dowidar. According to Britain, E&’s stake in Vodafone posed national security risks in terms of government contracts and cyber security, however it was satisfied with the steps taken to alleviate its concerns.
