According to ABI Research, the telecom equipment maker Ericsson led the radio access network (RAN) market in 2014. Ericsson was followed by Huawei, Nokia Networks and Alcatel Lucent as the second, third and fourth largest RAN suppliers in 2014.

The research firm has stated that all the top four RAN suppliers reported double digit market shares in 2014. Further, Asia Pacific led the growth in the base stations market in the past year as the region continued to account for the majority of worldwide base station deployments. In addition, Asia Pacific continues to be the largest market for long term evolution (LTE) equipment, followed by North America and Western Europe. In fact, LTE expenditures accounted for a majority of RAN spending in 2014.

Going forward, ABI Research expects China to dominate the LTE base station market in the Asia Pacific region, and have the largest LTE installed base in the world by 2019. The country is expected to account for about three quarters of the worldwide LTE installed base by 2019.
