Ericsson India plans to invest around $100 million per year in the country over the next few years as a part of its expansion strategy in the region. A big chunk of the investment will be used to expand activities in the company’s manufacturing plant at Jaipur. As part of this exercise, the company had upgraded the facility for manufacturing mobile switches at the Jaipur plant in March 2005. The ongoing expansion process also envisages the company investing in technological innovations. Ericsson’s research and development (R&D) centre at Chennai will be another focus area in the company’s growth plan. The company has crossed the 1 million mark in creating wireline broadband lines in India. At present, Ericsson India is the leading provider of solutions such as telephony softswitch, IP multimedia subsystem, and ethernet DSL access.
