
Ericsson has bagged a contract from Dialog Telecom to build the latter’s 3G service rollout in Sri Lanka. Ericsson will provide 100 per cent of the core network as well as the majority of the radio access network. Dialog’s 3G service rollout will enable mobile users to experience high speed mobile broadband, video telephony, mobile TV streaming, IP telephony and GPS-based services. Meanwhile, Mobitel has announced a $200 million expansion programme in Sri Lanka. The company has hired Huawei Technologies to install 800 additional GSM base stations in order to double network capacity, extend coverage and implement 3G services in the country.
