Ericsson and Huawei have renewed their long-term, global patent cross-licensing agreement, which covers essential patents for standards relevant to the products of both companies, including 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile technologies. The agreement covers the companies’ respective sales of network infrastructure and consumer devices, providing both parties access to each other’s patented, standardised technologies.

According to Ericsson, it has a patent portfolio of more than 60,000 granted patents, and annual investments of more than $4 billion in research and development. With the current portfolio of intellectual property rights licensing contracts, Ericsson said that it estimated its 2023 IPR licensing revenues to be approximately SEK 11 billion.
