Eric Schmidt has resigned from his position as chairman of the board of Google’s parent company, Alphabet. According to the company, he does not intend to seek re-election to the board when his term expires in June 2019, but will continue to advise it on technical matters. Schmidt joined the company in March 2001 and has served on the board for over 18 years. He was CEO of Google from mid-2001 till March 2011.
