The research firm, Gartner Inc has published the results of a consumer-end survey aimed at finding out the time spent by tablet users on various categories such as entertainment and communication.
The survey was conducted in July 2013 amongst 726 tablet users in the US, UK and Australia. The survey results indicate that about 50 per cent of device screen time is spent pursuing entertainment activities such as playing games, reading books, watching live TV or listening to music and radio.
Following entertainment, the rest of the time is spent on communication (26 per cent), such as sending emails and visiting social media sites, production activities (15 per cent), such as editing videos and writing blogs, and searching for information (9 per cent), including checking the news, weather forecasts and looking up for details regarding various products and services.
Commenting on the survey results, Meike Escherich, principal research analyst, Gartner, says, ?Users spend by far the most time on entertainment often using several devices at once. The number of multitasking and multiscreen users is increasing.?
Escherich, adds, ?Consumers, for example, use tablets in the evening, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. This suggests the use of tablets alongside TV viewing and other activities. Smartphones are used more for ad hoc research or quick sessions on social media websites while on the move.?
