According to a report by OpenSignal, Eden Gardens in Kolkata tops the list of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 venues on 5G availability and download speed, while Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad gave the best video streaming experience over 5G network. 11 out of the 12 venues for this year’s IPL have 5G coverage, with the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala being the odd one out.
As per the study, the best 5G upload speed was recorded in Narendra Modi stadium as it had the best multiplayer gaming experience. Eden Gardens had speeds of 380.4 Mbps on average, while the user in a further four stadiums clocked up 5G download speeds that average above 300 Mbps. Narendra Modi Stadium had 360.2 Mbps, Arun Jaitley Stadium had 341.8 Mbps, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium had 336.5 Mbps and M.A Chidambaram Stadium registered 322.9 Mbps. The overall download speeds across the 12 venues ranged from 17.2 Mbps to 43.9 Mbps with Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at the top followed by Narendra Modi Stadium with an overall download speed of 40.9 Mbps.
The data were collected within 1,500 metres of the geographical coordinates of the stadiums between February 1, 2023, and May 1, 2023. Meanwhile, Narendra Modi stadium had the highest mobile upload speed at 25.9 Mbps, while the lowest was recorded at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium at 16.9 Mbps. Barsapara stadium provided the connectivity 99.1 per cent of the time while Eden Gardens topped in 5G availability with 41.5 per cent. The overall connectivity of the stadiums was more than 96 per cent of the time. More than half of the stadiums scored over 60 per cent on Excellent Consistent Quality overall, whereas 80 per cent for core consistent quality.
