Echelon Edge and BSNL are deploying a commercial private 5G network at the Amlohri Open Cast Coal Mines facility in Madhya Pradesh, India. The project is being implemented for Coal India Limited and is expected to be completed by February 2025, with support from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute.

Echelon Edge is launching a 5G Standalone private network to address environmental and terrain-related challenges in the coal mining sector, using the 5G spectrum allocated to the public sector telco.

The 5G network will enable voice and video communications, surveillance, asset tracking, internet of things (IoT) sensors, and drone-based remote monitoring. It will also create a virtual reality model of the Amlohri Coal Mine, digital twin technology for load haul dump operations, and a 5G collision avoidance system. In addition, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered traffic control solutions will optimise haul road crossings for safety and efficiency.
