The Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) wireless technology monitoring group has removed 140 illegal mobile signal boosters from various parts of Delhi.
The raids were conducted between February 18, 2021 and February 24, 2021 across various parts of Delhi, including Connaught Place, Hauz Khas and Nehru Place.
DoT had also conducted awareness campaigns through which people were made aware that they are not supposed to use illegal mobile signal boosters. These inspection drives and public awareness campaigns have been regularly carried out since 2018.
As per industry estimates, there were around 3,000 illegal mobile signal boosters installed in Delhi that were leading to call drops and other network issues. Telecom operators have often raised their concern over the subject before DoT as these illegal mobile signal boosters adversely impact the quality of service.
