As per industry sources, various units of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have been seeking huge call data records of subscribers in some circles on a routine basis. This, however, is alleged to be in deviation from the standard operating procedure laid down by the government.
As a result, industry players have written to the Telecom Secretary, raising concerns over such practices.
In their letter, industry players have claimed that DoT’s Delhi unit demanded call data records (CDRs) of entire state for February 2, 3 and 4, 2020. Further, they mentioned that the unit had separately asked for CDRs for specific routes in Delhi with residences of ministers, members of parliament, judge, important offices etc.
