As per the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) proposal to allow telecom companies to pay adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues in 20 years will improve their cash flow. Further, the decision to raise tariff by mobile operators will further help in resurrecting the financially stressed sector, COAI said.

The DoT recently moved Supreme Court (SC) seeking approval of its formula to allow telcos to pay their AGR dues in annual instalments for over 20 years to avoid impact on the economy.

On the matter of telecom operators’ licence getting expired before 20 years, COAI said that operators are interested in buying 5G spectrum which will extend validity of their licence provided they get relief on the same.
