The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is planning to release the information memorandum containing the details of the spectrum auction on August 22, 2012, say news reports.

Net, net, this implies a revision in the timeline of the auction for the second time. Prior to this, DoT was unable to release the information memorandum on August 6, 2012. This date was set as per the revised schedule for spectrum roll out approved by the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) established for the auction.

With this, the government will be left with eight days to carry out the pre-bid conference, issue clarifications, invite applications for the sale process, check compliance and carry out the bidding process. In comparison, the period between release of the information and the completion of the 3G auctions which were held in 2010 was about four months.
