The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is likely to issue a showcause notice to Bharti Airtel for providing licence fee details with discrepancies to the Government of India.
DoT?s internal audit has found discrepancies in licence fee details shared by Bharti Airtel for the period between 2006 and 2008. According to DoT, the operator did not show foreign exchange gains made by it in 2006-2007 in its gross revenues for the year 2006-2007. The licence fee is calculated based on the gross revenue reported by the operators.
As per DoT, auditors have determined that the operator made forex gain amounting to Rs 240 million for the year 2006-2007.
