The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is planning to approach the Ministry of Law for its views on the alleged licence agreement violation by the Tata Group, say news reports. It is believed that DoT will proceed once the Ministry of Corporate Affairs submits a detailed report on the same.
DoT will then submit the report to the Ministry of Law for its views.
Prior to this, Aditya Birla Nuvo had written to DoT stating that Tata Industries held more than 10 per cent indirect equity in Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited (TTML) for the same circles.
The company said that this was a violation of existing licence conditions and added that both operators were offering services in circles overlapping with Idea Cellular.
Thereafter, DoT had asked the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for information pertaining to the shareholding pattern of Tata Industries in TTSL and TTML in 2005-2006.
