The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will be naming an auctioneer for conducting the next 4G spectrum auction on May 22, 2020. To this end, DoT has shortlisted four companies which include Mjunction Services Limited, C1 India Private Limited, MSTC Limited and e-Procurement Technologies Limited, who have qualified in the technical round.
According to DoT, the financial bids will be opened on May 18, 2020 and finalisation of the auctioneer will take place on May 22, 2020. As per industry sources, the auction is likely to happen within 90 days, post-finalisation of the auctioneer.
The development comes after the Digital Communications Commission (DCC) recently held a discussion on the upcoming auctions and resolved to split the auctions in two parts by offering 4G airwaves in 2020 and 5G airwaves during 2021.
The auctioneer is the agency that will develop and manage the software for the upcoming spectrum sale.
