The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is likely to ask Bharti Airtel to pay Rs 4.36 billion for the merger with Airtel Broadband Services Private Limited (ABSPL). The fee would account for the differential spectrum cost and migration fee. Earlier, DoT had sought legal opinion on the matter and was informed that the company is reportedly liable to pay the migration fee.
Airtel had acquired ABSPL, formerly Wireless Business Services Private Limited, from US-based chipset marker Qualcomm in 2013. ABSPL holds broadband wireless access spectrum in four service areas – Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala and Haryana.
