The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has decided to allocate 10MHz spectrum in 806-824 MHz band to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for its connectivity requirements. MHA requires specific spectrums for its connectivity needs including walkie-talkie operations and setting up of an exclusive captive mobile network.

According to sources, these airwaves can     not be put to auction since the spectrum bands to be reserved are not identified for international mobile telecommunications (IMT) usage. The police force and other public safety agencies use highly reliable and secured communication networks on a daily basis     , as the transmission needs to be full proof. Such networks can only be built on exclusive basis, as getting spectrums from telecom operators might put security at risk. Thus, the DoT has decided to reserve 806-816 MHz for MHA in the 806-824 MHz band, which is a non-IMT band.
