The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reportedly started the process of settling adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues using the Rs 257.01 billion payment it received from telcos such as Vodafone Idea, Airtel and Tata group.

The DoT decided to settle the dues against the entire money it has received, even though Airtel and Tata group have insisted that their past dues are much lower than what they have paid to the government. As per the telcos, they have paid nearly Rs 70 billion extra to reconcile any differences between their calculations and the DoT estimates.

With DoT starting the settlement process now, it will once again seek further payments from the companies in line with the Supreme Court’s October 24, 2019, direction.

The further recovery sought from Vodafone Idea, Airtel, TataTeleservices Limited (TTSL) and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) is estimated at Rs 767.46 billion.
