The government has started preparing a crisis plan to take care of millions of mobile subscribers and business enterprises in the telecom sector. This contingency plan is being prepared keeping in mind the fast-deteriorating financial condition in the telecom sector.
While the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is hoping to device a way to save the telecom operators from the ongoing financial turmoil, it is still being considered prudent to prepare for the worst.
The possibility of any major telecom operator going bankrupt and exiting the market would lead to chaos in the sector. Such an event would result in mass-scale shift of subscribers, lakhs of porting requests, and even closure of telecom and internet lines of businesses (leased lines).
