The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sought Rs 480 billion from Oil India in past statutory dues. With regard to this, DoT has issued a demand notice to Oil India. The dues have been sought in relation to the use of optic fibre network by the company for internal communication.

Following this, the company is planning to challenge DoT’s demand notice in Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).

This development has taken place in the backdrop of Supreme Court’s recent ruling that requires non-telecom revenues to be included while considering payments of government dues.

However, as per industry estimates, the dues sought is double the net worth of Oil India.
