The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sought the approval of Union Cabinet for the structure of production-link incentives (PLI) for telecom gear makers in India. Recently on December 01, 2020, the Digital Communications Commission (DCC) had approved the proposal for the scheme.

Earlier in November 2020, the Cabinet had approved an incentive of Rs 121.95 billion to introduce PLI scheme for telecom and network products.

The product portfolio that has been specified include core transmission equipment; 4G/5G, next-generation radio access network and wireless equipment; and access and customer premises equipment (CPE). In addition, it also includes internet of things (IoT) access devices, other wireless equipment and enterprise equipment such as switches and routers.

Once DoT gets the Cabinet’s approval, it will start inviting application from the relevant companies from January 2021 onwards.
