The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked US-based agencies for their assistance (both technical and regulatory) in intercepting encrypted communications from BlackBerry, Gmail, Nokia Pushmail and Skype, say news reports.
It is believed that DoT had made this request to Ronald k. Noble, secretary-general, Interpol.
DoT?s request comes after Indian security agencies have been scrutinising various options to intercept encrypted communications.
