The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reportedly asked the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to limit its usage and vacate the remaining airwaves in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) band.

Currently, ISRO operates five space stations in the mmWave band.

The DoT has said that 5G services would not only require a single band but radio waves across the sub-GHz, mid-band, and millimeter-wave band.

Further, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has also expressed that the mmWave band could be extremely useful for industrial IoT and investment from the private sector is needed.
