The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is reportedly considering to regulate communication apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Skype. The move will be considered from the national security point of view.
According to industry sources, in this regard the DoT has sought comments from the home ministry before commencing work on a licensing regime.
This development follows escalating tussle between the Indian government and social media platforms and international messaging applications.
