The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has dismissed Vodafone India’s application to renew its licences in three circles, say news reports. The operator’s licences in these circles are due for renewal in 2014.
DoT has turned down the operator’s request for renewal of licences in the Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata circles. The operator had obtained licences for these three circles in 1994, which were valid for 20 years.
In these circles, Vodafone holds spectrum in the 900 MHz band. DoT plans to auction spectrum in this band and has asked the operator to participate in the auction to obtain fresh licences.
