The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is reportedly planning to set up a six-member committee to review 4G tender specifications of state-run telcos Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

As per industry sources, the new process will likely disqualify China-based vendorsfrom participation in the tender. The committee will be headed by a senior DoT official and will have a representatives from BSNL and MTNL, two independent experts and another representative from the industry.

The move follows India’s recent tussle with China close to the Line of Actual Control.  The government thereafter instructed BSNL to not use Chinese equipment for the upgradation.
