The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) reportedly said that it may auction one slot of pan-India broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum. Further, it is believed that it is currently in talks with the Ministry of Finance for the same.

In 2010, the government accrued Rs 1.06 trillion by auctioning 3G and BWA spectrum. The BWA auction was for two slots of 20 MHz each of pan-India spectrum.

The government had raised Rs 677.19 billion from the 3G spectrum auction and Rs 390 billion from the BWA auction.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Finance Ministry has been asking DoT to sell spectrum, to cut down the fiscal deficit.
