The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has mandated that all calls without proper caller line identification shall be dropped by the International Long-Distance Operators (ILDOs) at their gateways.

To this end, the DoT has amended the clause regarding caller identification of international calls in the unified licence for telecom operators to improve security and in the public interest. This would enable international calls with no or improper identification to be stopped at the telco’s server level and not reach the consumer. All ILDOs are required to verify complete caller identification for international calls.

The amended clause comes into effect from August 1, 2022.
