The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is going to ask broadband wireless access (BWA) operators to expedite service roll out, say news reports.
The department will direct operators to speed-up their network roll outs as well as inform the government about the technology that they intend to use for rolling out their network.
In 2010, six companies were awarded BWA spectrum. These include Infotel Broadband (later acquired by Reliance Industries) Bharti Airtel, Tikona Digital Networks, Aircel, Augere Wireless Broadband and Qualcomm (later acquired by Bharti Airtel).
Out of the six players, only Bharti Airtel has introduced BWA services in the country.
