The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a new self-KYC process for issuing mobile connections and conversion of prepaid to postpaid and vice-versa via an OTP-based procedure, as part of reforms to enable a contactless, customer-centric and secure authentication for mobile subscribers.
Under the new self-KYC process, the issuing of a new mobile connection will take place through an app/portal-based online procedure. It grants customers the flexibility to apply for a mobile connection from home or office and get doorstep delivery of SIM, while the documents are electronically verified by UIDAI or DigiLocker. Furthermore, customer consent has been made mandatory in case the Aadhar is being used and the customer’s demographic details will be obtained electronically from the UIDAI, according to an official release by the press information Bureau release.
