The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has put out an advisory to promote safe online transactions. The advisory intends to make citizens aware by asking them not to scan any QR code shared by random person, unless the objective is to pay.
With rising online transactions, risks of falling into fraudsters’ trap have become a major cause of concern for the end users. To this end, the advisory has urged the citizens not to install any remote access application on their devices and should stay away from using unknown Wi-Fi networks. In case one is connected to such networks, any financial transactions should be avoided.
To stay away from potential online fraud, the advisory has also asked citizens not to share personal information, such as contact number and banking details. Further, it has urged people not to store important and sensitive information and password on mobile and social media platforms.
