In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is examining complaints of alleged misuse of the Universal Service Obligation (USO) Fund by Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Reliance Communications (RCOM).

Deora said, “Complaints have been received through the central vigilance commission (CVC) regarding the disbursement of Rs 16.50 billion to TTSL and RCOM by the USO Fund for self-certified and mostly fake rural phones.?

He added that four squads headed by the principal chief controller of accounts and the chief controller of accounts have been formed to examine the complaints and submit their report.
