As per industry sources, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has initiated testing of 28 5G cells of a mobile service provider at 13 locations in the Prahladnagar area in Ahmedabad.
A data download speed of 1.5 gigabits per second (Gbps) was reportedly recorded by DoT officials. The instruments installed for 5G technology at the Prahladnagar sites were compact single-boxes with zero footprint, that can be installed even on 10 metre or 15 metre poles, to provide localised 5G coverage.
The testing of the Prahladnagar site was carried out according to standards laid by the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of DoT, which frames specifications of common standards for telecom network equipment and services.
