DoT in favour of providing security agencies real time access to communication networks

In a communication to the National Information Board (NIB), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has recommended that security agencies should be given real-time access to the country?s communication network. According to DoT, the move would help security agencies monitor and safeguard India?s telecom network from potential cyber attacks.

DoT?s recommendations come in the wake of NIB seeking former?s views on the draft telecom security policy.

According to DoT, the country?s dependence on imported core network gear like switches, routers, servers and transmission systems makes Indian telecom networks vulnerable to cyber attacks. DoT has suggested that the government should frame a strong telecom security policy to secure India?s telecom network from potential cyber attacks.
