DoT has sent notices to service providers offering local direct dialling (LDD) services to explain the routing pattern of the service availed of by roaming customers. This move is part of DoT’s initiative to seek clarity on the procedures followed by operators while providing value-added services. LDD services offer roaming facilities at much cheaper rates by allowing roaming calls to be considered as local calls. DoT has asked mobile operators to explain the legality of the service, especially in light of access deficit charges (ADC), which are applicable to long distance calls.
