DoT has, in principle, agreed to the finance ministry’s suggestion of raising Rs 10 billion from telecom companies applying for spectrum licences. The money will fund new equipment purchases for the armed forces so that they can vacate the spectrum. Details of splitting of the Rs 10 billion among different players will be worked out once the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) submits its recommendations on 3G spectrum to the government.
