The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has given one-month extension for mandatory security testing of Wi-Fi customer premises equipment (CPE) and IP routers.
The new security mandate was scheduled to be implemented from October 1, 2024 but since only a handful of companies have applied, the government extended the deadline for companies to apply to avoid any disruption in supplies.
In addition, applicants will be issued a ‘pro tem certificate’ that will be valid for six months to facilitate continuous supply of products, till they are certified.
Further, several issues raised by the industry have been addressed. For instance, the DoT accepted that internal test reports should be accepted for certification in lieu of source code. In addition, firms can share the reports with the National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS), instead of test labs if companies fear leakage.
