The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has extended the deadline of compliance and audit for service providers till March 31, 2020, citing COVID-19 outbreak.
In a letter dated March 23, 2020, the DoT had stated that the audit process conducted by licensed spectrum access (LSA) field units in respect of electromagnetic radiation (EMR ) and customer acquisition form (CAF) (subscriber verification) shall be kept in abeyance till March 31, 2020 due to the unforeseen situation in wake of COVID-19. The letter further said that registration and testing related to roll out obligations of TSPs shall also remain suspended till March 31, 2020.
However, the telecom companies has sought for the extension till the lockdown period, given the 21-day lockdown started on March 25, 2020.
Meanwhile, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has also requested DoT to extend the deadline further till the period of lockdown. In its response on the matter, COAI has requested DoT that any further extensions/ reliefs given by DoT should mention that it would be effective till the period of the lockdown instead of mentioning any specific date.
