The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is examining the legal applicability of January 23, 2020 deadline for payment of over Rs 2.4 trillion statutory dues for non-telecom public sector undertakings (PSUs) which were not originally party to the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) matter.

As per industry sources, the current view that is emerging in the DoT appears to be that the timeline may not apply to PSUs. However, the matter is being legally examined for clarity.

Several non-telecom companies, including state-owned gas utility GAIL India Limited and power transmission firm PowerGrid Corporation are bound by the judgement on AGR dues.
